The Vice-Admiral Avelino Teixeira da Mota, to whose memory the studies published in this two-volume work are dedicated, was a distinguished Navy officer and a scholar devoted to the historical, nautical, anthropological, ethnographic and sociological sciences.

A posthumous tribute that, despite its simplicity, is quite significant for the quality of the works that are part of it and for the scientific brilliance of its authors. Homage that, coming from all over the world, sublimating the memory of this wise sailor, honors Portugal.
