Gunter's Quadrant
Nautical instrument to calculate latitude
A fragment of the Maritime History illustrated on an object. This wood and bronze reproduction is based on quadrants created by the 17th-century English astronomer Gunter, whose originals can be found at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
The quadrant was used to measure the height of the stars to calculate the latitude that indicated the vessel's position at sea.
