Nocturnal Raimundo Lulio with case
Nocturnal, the nautical instrument to calculate the hours
This Nocturnal owes its name to the Spanish scholar Raimundo Lúlio. In the late thirteenth century, he described the Polar Wheel, which he called astrolabii nocturni, becoming commonly known as Nocturnal. This nautical instrument is used to predict the time through the movement of the stars.
This reproduction emphasises the elegance and inventiveness of the constructions, carefully kept in a case.
