Nocturnal Girolamo della Volpaia
Nocturnal, the nautical instrument to calculate the time through the stars
This elegant Nocturnal was inspired by the model built in 1568 by Girolamo della Volpaia.
By observing and reading the movement that the star Kochab makes around the Pole star, and with the help of the nocturnal, it is possible to calculate the time at a precise moment in the North Pole. At the South Pole, it was the Crux constellation, the Southern Cross.
