Blog - MARITIME MUSEUM DISTINGUISHED IN the MUSEOLOGY 2018 AWARDS

The awards ceremony of the Portuguese Association of Museology (APOM) 2018 was held last May 25, 2018, at the National Coach Museum and was attended by His Excellency, the President of the Portuguese Republic, as well as His Excellency the Minister of Culture. APOM distinguishes, every year, professionals and institutions working in the area of the Portuguese Museology and Heritage, namely: museums, municipalities, higher education institutions, research centres, among others.

This year, the Maritime Museum, with the exhibition "Vikings - Warriors of the Sea", received the highest distinction in the categories of "Temporary Exhibition" and "Transport of Heritage". These awards attest to the excellence of the results obtained by the team who designed and held this exhibition, a cooperation between the Navy Cultural Commission, the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Denmark and the company MuseumsPartner.

The Embassy of Denmark in Portugal was also distinguished with the "International Cooperation" award for the initiative and support provided to the exhibition "Vikings - Warriors of the Sea" and for the conference entitled "Queens, Fisheries and Crusades. Portugal and Denmark from the Vikings to the Age of Discovery", also held at the Maritime Museum, on June 21, 2017.

With this award, the Maritime Museum was distinguished for the third consecutive year, having won, in 2016, the prize in the category of "Marketing and Cultural Merchandising" and, in 2017, received a special mention in the category “Museography". It is also important to note that about 80 APOM affiliated entities were candidates to the different categories, in a total of 253 applications.
