Nautical Astrolabe
Nautical instrument adapted by Portuguese navigators
To navigate in History through its treasures.
The nautical astrolabe was used to determine the latitude of a vessel at sea by positioning the sun with the horizon line. This beautiful reproduction is based on the nautical astrolabe "Valentia", named after being found on this Irish island. The original one, found among the spoils of Filipe II's Armada (16th century), can be seen at the National Maritime Museum, in Greenwich.
